Mining for as much Gold and as many Diamonds as we can

Quatermain’s Mine is an enjoyable team building simulation that focuses on themes of leadership, planning and communications.
The situation: is that teams have sufficient but not excessive resources for a 20-day journey to and from Quatermain’s Mine.
The challenge? To work together and to spend as many days as possible at the mine, to “Mine as much Gold and as many Diamonds as we can!”
The design of the exercise is to generate opportunities for learning.
There are many metaphors in the exercise that link elegantly to individual and organisational improvement.

Teams
A Team can be as few as 4 people each but preferably 5 to 6 people on a team. That way, themes of thinking styles, risk taking and strategy emerge.
The structure of the exercise allows flexibility to operate the exercise for 2 to 100 teams .
Ideally, a collaborating group of any 3 teams could work together to generate optimal success for each team, these 3 teams and the overall group.
Generally, however, teams compete against each other rather than collaborating to maximize results. Remember, our goal is to:
“Mine as much Gold and as many Diamonds as WE can!”
There is no limit on the number of teams that can participate .

Africa was littered with these handy little run-arounds after the cessation of hostilities and Quatermain found them a good deal more user friendly than mules whilst on expedition. They are very robust and have a fair turn of speed over the veldt. May be tweaked for even greater speed.
